Reg Jackson was
presented with a Tankard by Mick Massingham, Chairman of G & D RA, at
this years AGM in recognition of the contribution Reg has made during
his tenure as our Lincolnshire FA delegate over the past 26 years. In
reply, Reg said he was proud to have represented G & D RA on the Lincs
FA Council and thanked the Association for the gift. He added,
that this year saw a record number of Lincolnshire Officials being
promoted, and that he wished his successor John Drew all the best on the
Council. Reg is now hoping that England get to the World Cup Final
because, if they do, he will represent the Lincs FA Council in Berlin.
Do you have any spare tickets Reg? |

New Committee voted in at
the AGM. There were a number of minor changes to the G & D RA
committee with Andrew Green stepping down from his position as Fund
Raiser, but remaining on the committee, and we are delighted to welcome
Nigel Burton on to the committee. The Committee will be
looking to appoint a Fund Raiser during it's first meeting in July.
Chairman Mick said Andrew is a difficult man to replace, having done an
excellent job over the past few years, but it is vital to the
Association that we have a volunteer to fill his boots.
Anyone wishing to undertake this position should
contact
Mick Massingham ASAP. |

Les Olive Award goes to Martyn Short...
The Les
Olive Award is presented annually to the Referee that has been voted by
his peers within the G & D RA for his/her contribution to Refereeing.
This year Joan Olive was delighted to present Martyn Short with the
trophy. Martyn, Vice-Chairman of the Association, is one of those
quiet, humble, but determined and well organised individuals that do a
lot behind the scenes. As a former Premier League Official, Martyn
has over the passed year progressed as an FA Qualified Referee
Instructor, worked tirelessly on the Lincs FA Referee Academy,
officiated & assessed on a large number of Football League matches, and still has
managed to find time to mentor some of the local referees striving for
promotion at grass roots level. He is always sought after when
referees need advice, hence the support given to him by his wife Anne
when answering the telephone is
very much appreciated. Martyn well done on winning this
years award and thanks from everyone in G & D RA.

Golf Day a huge success!
Yes, I know it's hard
to believe, but there are a number of Referees who like to relax
by attempting to play golf. This years event was once
again held at
Boston
West Golf Course. The breakfast and dinner were
excellent, and the course was in tip top condition. Thanks to all
at Boston West, especially the catering and bar staff who had to put up
with all the old jokes, cheers and jeers as we watched the England
match.

It was a great day out in brilliant sunshine,
well done to Andrew Green for organising the day and the
weather. Fifteen sunburnt golfers completed the course...
some had a lot more shots than others. Rumour has it that
John Drew had to use the bucket and spade he won last year on a
number of occasions. Winners were:
G & D RA Champion 2006 - Andrew "I'm
not a bandit" Green. Longest Drive - Bill
Hannigan. Nearest the Pin - Pete Sharp. Most Golf
- Will Macintosh.

Joe Guest leaves Soho Square for Ottaura Canada...
The G & D RA bid a "Bon-voyage" to Joe Guest at the May 2006 General
Meeting. Joe leaves his position at Soho Square to take up the
position of Director of Referees, Canadian FA. Joe has been
heavily involved in National & Local football and will be sorely missed
by all his friends and colleagues within the G & D RA. Martyn Short
presented Joe with a tankard to mark the occasion. We wish Joe
and his family all the best in Canada. |

Congratulations

on being invited onto the National List for Contributory Leagues
Referees, one of only five referees from Lincolnshire.
Well done Andrew, and good luck with the rest of your career. |

Steve Beswick and his team gets the once over...
Steve Beswick was in the middle for the Sunday Charity Cup Final,
Harrowby Athletic v Red Lion Bourne held on 23rd April at Ancaster,
the match chosen, as part of the ongoing refereeing training plan, for
the match observation by all officials within the G & D RA. Officials
watch how Steve and his team apply the Laws, work as a team, control
players and club officials, use of voice and whistle, and then give
constructive feedback at the next general meeting.
Martyn Short summed
up the assessment as a job well done, high praise indeed, for the four
men in black.
Referee: Steve Beswick, Assistants: Colin Pound &
Pete Preston, 4th Official: John Drew.

Our Reg moves onwards and upwards...
Reg
Jackson informed the G & D RA that he has been appointed to Soho Square and
will therefore reluctantly have to give up being our Lincolnshire FA
Delegate. Reg has represented Grantham on the council since 1980
and has done a fantastic job in looking after our Referee needs,
as well as being the Chairman of the Referees Sub Committee. He
will remain on the books of Lincolnshire FA having been voted on as a
Life Member of the Council. Congratulations on your appointment
Reg, and thanks from all your friends and colleagues at G & D RA.
